Build stories and instructional posts on RCPilot are vastly different from ones you may be used to in forums.
- No more wading through pages of posts, some from the original poster and many more from people commenting.
- You will be able to laser in on the chapter you want. If you are only interested in how the engine was mounted, you can easily find it.
- The stories are incredibly discoverable through the use of topics, specialties, keywords, brand and model name (along with the content in the post)
How to Make a Good "How It's Done" Story
A story on RCPilot is, by definition, a sequential, multi-part series of posts that take the reader through a build progression. If you have a tip or a short piece on a building technique, that DOES NOT belong in the "How It's Done" area; it belongs in the DISCUSSIONS area with the "Quick Tip" topic filter.
Once you decide on your project, think about the different stages or chapters you might want to write about (e.g. unboxing, fuselage, wings, final setup).
Organize your chapters into small, bite-sized segments so that users can (a) mouse over your chapter numbers to quickly find the segment they want, and (b) so that comments in each chapter are relevant to a specific part of the build. Remember, the beauty of the RCPilot chapter system is its ability to take long slogging stories and separate them into logical, discoverable chapters.
In your story, be concise! Don't make every chapter a dissertation. Instead, focus on the chapter theme and give readers the important information they need in order to make their builds better (after all, that's why you are sharing the story, right?).
You can post up to 20 images and also include videos in your chapters. You should be able to communicate the essence of your chapter with 10 photos. If you can't, split the content into two chapters. For example, if you are painting a model, perhaps splitting it into a) Sanding & Priming, b) Applying Paint and c) Applying Clear & Decals. There is no hard and fast rule; just think ahead and readers will find your content easy to consume!
